Spanish defender Jana Fernandez has signed a new contract with London City Lionesses, keeping her at the club until 2029.

Since joining from Barcelona a year ago, Fernandez has become a key component for the Lionesses, playing every league match last season, with her performances earning her the fan's vote for Club Player of the Season. London City finished sixth in the league in 2025-26.

'I'm absolutely delighted to sign a new contract here at London City'. Fernandez told club media.

'When I arrived in England one year ago I joined this club with dreams for the future. Potential, excitement and progress are three words I associate with the club and I'm pleased to commit my future. I feel at home and settled here. We are building something special together, as players, staff and fans, and I can't wait to play my part.'

Fernandez spent most of her career at Barcelona, graduating from their academy, winning the UEFA Women's Champions League and Copa de La Reina three times and becoming a five time Liga F title champion.

Having attracted big names this summer transfer window, it was crucial that London City retained their talent, with Fernandez and England international Freya Godfrey committing their futures in recent months.

Burnley have announced Leah Galton from Manchester United as their latest signing, with the England international who won the 2023-24 Women's FA Cup with the Red Devils, putting pen to paper on a one year contract, with a 12 month extension.

She joins an ambitious Burnley squad aming to make their mark in the Women's Super League 2, having won it once before in 2019.

Galton previously joined Leeds United's academy at the beginning of her career before a short stint in the United States, where she played college football for Hofstra Pride in 2012 and Sky Blue FC.

She became part of the original Manchester United squad in 2018 when the team was reformed, scoring 35 goals in 111 apperances, becoming the club's second highest scorer at the end of the last season.

Speaking to club media, Galton said: 'It’s very, very exciting actually! I wasn’t too sure what was going to happen, but Burnley have come in for me and I absolutely said yes, so I’m excited to get started. The training ground is gorgeous – I love it! It’s exactly what you need and it’s nice being integrated with everybody, which makes it feel homely.

'I’ve done as much as I could to keep fit during pre-season, and I’ve got a little bit of work to do before I’m fully ready to be back on the pitch. You’ll hopefully see me soon, as I’ve missed playing so much. I’m going to work very hard and give everything I can to this club'.

Galton will wear the number 44 shirt while with the Clarets and could make her debut this week against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league.
